Cut SDR account research from 20 minutes to 4 with a Clay + Claude enrichment pipeline

ClayClaudeHubSpot

01The Problem

SDRs were spending up to 20 minutes per target account manually piecing together firmographics, recent news, and a relevant angle before outreach. The research was inconsistent, rarely documented, and the bottleneck capped how many accounts the team could work in a day.

02The Approach

A look at a week of activity logs showed the time sink wasn't writing emails — it was the upstream research. So the goal became removing manual lookup entirely and handing reps a finished, structured brief. I chose Clay for waterfall enrichment and Claude for the judgment work (synthesizing an angle) rather than a rigid template, because the "why now" varies per account.

03The Solution

A Clay table enriches each account through a data waterfall, then passes the results to a Claude prompt that writes a 3-line brief: the account's likely priority, a relevant trigger, and a suggested opening angle. The finished brief syncs back to the HubSpot record so reps open a contact and the research is already there.

04Impact & Learnings

The pipeline cut research time by ~70% and let reps touch more accounts per day. But the biggest lever wasn't speed — it was consistency: every rep now starts from the same quality of brief.

If I rebuilt it, I'd add a confidence flag so reps know when to trust the auto-angle versus do a manual pass.
